Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice has been designed to enable the student to perform individual routines for specific conditions, and to prepare the student to develop a standard of professionalism essential to a successful massage practice. The student is taught how to carry out a standard full body massage, including neck, shoulder, and scalp massage.

The form of massage which is taught comprises conventional massage techniques which affect the superficial soft tissue of the skin and its surrounding structures. These techniques taught and performed include a variety of manual application such as stroking, effleurage, petrissage, friction, percussion and vibrational movements, stretching, compression, muscle grouping and joint movements. 

  • Full-time/Part-time course and flexible learning with a combination of practical and distance learning units available
  • Theory classes and practical classes
  • Student clinic which allows students to gain practical experience
  • Study requirements of a minimum of 8 hours per week of private study
  • Minimum of year 12 literacy and numeracy standards
  • Social maturity and mature presentation are requirements

 

 

Applicants without the requisite qualifications but with demonstrable knowledge and relevant experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered individually.
Units from the Accredited National Health Training Package for the Diploma level are covered in the syllabus. The following is an outline of units offered in this course.

AAOWT reserves the right in accordance with the Australian Quality Training Framework guidelines, to update and/or alter the units offered to ensure valid and current qualifications. 

Student clinic which allows students to gain practical experience is an integral component of training and must be fully completed and verified to gain competency.

Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT), Association of Massage Therapists (AMT) and the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS).


Career Prospects
Graduate will be able to provide basic massage treatment within a therapeutic relaxation framework. You will be able to provide basic health assessment and treatment in a clinic, aged care facility, a health service, a spa facility or a palliative cre facility or hospital. Career opportunities are numerous.


Students who hold other qualifications with relevant units of competency may apply for Recognised Prior Learning. RPL application must be made on enrolment or at least four weeks before the course begins. Please speak to our Education Manager for further information.
